In Memory of BISS Can
CH Aislingcudo Is Pingin Ruadh
May 9th, 1998 - April 19th, 2009 Born on her sire’s birthday we had a premonition that Pingin was destined to leave an indelible mark on the history of her breed in Canada. I can still remember the day that she was born as if it were yesterday. Where did so many years go? We had the joy of holding her in our hands from the moment she was born until at her death we could feel her life slipping away. Pingin lived up to her name – her name means red penny or lucky penny. Before the breed became recognized and while Red and Whites were still showing in rare breeds Pingin at a year of age placed best in show. Christine Shira handled her that day – she was about fourteen years old at the time and had just lost her father to cancer – with tears in her eyes she looked at me and said how proud her father would have been of her. After recognition of the breed in 2000 Pingin was the fifth Red and White in Canada to earn the points for a CKC championship. She was best in breed at the National Specialty and was number one Red and White in Canada in 2002. In 2001 Muriel Iles was invited to judge the US independent national specialty hosted at Peter and Molly’s home in Ringoes, NJ. At the time I was well aware of the fact that Muriel did not care for ticking in the breed – Pingin was very ticked so I was under no illusions of her placing at the specialty. Of Pingin, Muriel said, “I really don’t care for your bitch’s ticking but her movement and structure is beautiful.” Pingin took winners bitch that day! Pingin had a wonderful temperament – she loved visitors - two legged or four! She was always brimming over with the joy of living. Her outlook on life was infectious. In her later years she greeted visitors waging her little stub of a tail – the remainder of what was once a beautiful, feathered, flowing plumage. I cried when her beautiful tail had to be surgically removed because of an abscess. Pingin produced more than thirty wonderful healthy puppies in three litters. There were many champions – hunters – agility dogs and wonderful loving pets. Pingin worked hard for the breed in Canada. As someone reflected shortly after her passing – the foundation dogs in Canada are all leaving us. We have just lost another milestone in Pingin. Pingin was a kind and loving companion who shared her life with us – together we created shared memories. When I look into the garden and see puppies playing I see a reflection of Pingin - the cycle goes on - a whisper of the past is ever present. |
